Middleham

North Yorkshire

Middleham Village

Middleham is a historic market town known for its twelfth-century castle, once the childhood home of Richard III, and its long-standing racehorse training tradition.

The town is centred around two market squares lined with Georgian buildings, shops, galleries and cafés.

Middleham Castle

Middleham Castle dominates the skyline of the village and can be seen from The Old Manse itself.

Originally built in the 12th century and childhood home of Richard III, the castle remains one of the most important historic sites in North Yorkshire.

Visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding countryside.

Equine epicentre

The training of racehorses has been carried out here for over 200 years and there are still several hundred horses stabled here, so don't be surprised to see them around town or galloping across the surrounding countryside.
